Update: Upcoming Mandatory Use of New HHCAHPS Cover Letters

Update: CMS is updating the below requirement, originally sent 7/7/2022, to permit vendors to submit an Exceptions Request Form if they wish to modify the new HHCAHPS Survey letters. Vendors must also email the HHCAHPS Survey Coordination Team their proposed modified letters. Vendors who wish to request an exception should do so before the January 2023 sample month, when use of the new letters is mandatory.

CMS will require HHCAHPS survey vendors to use the currently posted HHCAHPS Survey cover letters beginning with the January 2023 sample month. These more concise and consumer-friendly letters reflect information learned from recent CMS research and are being used in the HHCAHPS Survey Mode Experiment.
