Steps for Calculating Global Ratings and Composite Scores

As a reminder, HHCAHPS Survey results are reported for two global items and three composites, as shown below. A full discussion of these public reporting measures can be found in Chapter XIII of the HHCAHPS Protocols and Guidelines Manual, Version 8.0.

Global Items

  • Overall rating of care (Q20)
  • Patient willingness to recommend HHA to family or friends (Q25)

Composite Measures

  • Care of Patients (Q9, Q16, Q19, and Q24)
  • Communications Between Providers and Patients (Q2, Q15, Q17, Q18, Q22, and Q23)
  • Specific Care Issues (Q3, Q4, Q5, Q10, Q12, Q13, and Q14)
